Female Dancer Essentials for Performances

ALL DANCERS NEED TO HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS FOR ALL PERFORMANCES

Basics

  • Bras/Undergarments must be skin-colored and must not be visible beneath your child’s costume. 
  • Every dancer should have a NUDE body suit, camisole or leotard with Spaghetti Straps
  • For all bras, please ensure that they are either not be visible, thin strap or clear bra, BRA must be tan/nude. No Sports Bras 
  • Please DO NOT wear socks! Socks are ONLY to be worn during practices, NEVER for performances!

3. Makeup

Even our youngest dancers need to wear makeup on stage in order to not look washed out under the bright lights. Just a light touch of makeup will go a long way to help ensure your dancer looks their best on stage. 

For Ninos:  Make up for this group is light pink blush and light eye shadow, and red lipstick. 

Intermediate/Advanced/Company dancers: Make up for this group includes light pink blush, eye shadow (video/colors below), red lipstick

4. Hair

ALL DANCERS will wear their hair parted into two “braided pig tails” that will then be put up into a low bun.  Hair must be neatly slicked with gel and hairspray (no flyaway bits please).  Please follow the step by step instructions below:

  3. 4 hair ties
  4. Bun Base: Purchase HERE If your dancer has Long hair, they May not need bun base if their hair is full. See dance teacher for approval.
  5. Bun Cover: Purchase HERE

DANCERS BUN

All hair must be:
  • Center Parted
  • Clean
    • Use lots of gel or hairspray if needed
  • Bun placement is in the center back of their head. 
    • Use ears to help with alignment
  • Place the Bun cover over the wrapped hair/bun
  • Finalize with Bun Base to wrap around the wrapped hair/bun
    • bobby pin in base 
    • stays on for all dances

TIPS!

Practice - Practice - Practice! ​To ensure that students feel comfortable and confident about their performance, we ask parents and guardians to encourage dancers to rehearse their choreography at home.  Label everything with your Child’s name!
 All dancers must pack their accessories, shoes, etc in a clearly labelled bag with their name on it.
Label all:
  • Costumes that you own, 
  • Garment bags
  • accessories (handkerchiefs, tocados (braids), rebosos, etc)
  • shoes (please label each shoe)
  • makeup
Practice hair and makeup several days in advance so you’ll know if something is missing or isn’t right. 
  • Use IFM's Performance checklist of your child’s routines, listing their costumes,  shoes, and all accessories to make sure you have everything before going to the theater. 
  •  Also bring extra
    • hair gel
    • eye lashes
    • safety pins
    • earrings
    •  bobby pins
    •  hairspray for touchups. 
Please remember
  • NO nail-polish, jewelry, or visible undergarments is to be worn for Dress Rehearsals, or Performances. 
  • In days and weeks leading up to Recital Week wear Sunscreen to avoid painful sunburns and unsightly tan lines - you want to look and feel your best!
  • No Food or Beverages backstage! Remember that dancers need proper nutrition prior to performance & rehearsals - do not bring meals to the theater.  Light, dry snacks, and water will be asked for donations for the dancers.
